About

About

Gabriëlskloof is a family owned and run wine estate just off the N2 outside Botrivier. With sweeping views of the Babilonstoren mountains and the surrounding wheat fields, understated architecture and stylish, comfortable interiors, our aim is to show visitors true Overberg hospitality. In a relaxing atmosphere we invite you to taste our wines and olive oil, accompanied perhaps hearty meat and cheese platter, or tasted as part of our perfect food and wine pairing. Across the lawn is The Restaurant @Gabriëlskloof, ready to entice locals and seasoned travellers alike with mouth-watering, sincere cuisine and a deli filled to the rafters with all things handmade, homemade, delicious, fresh and beautiful.

The farm and vineyards were established in 2000, with our first vintage made in the cellar in 2009. Some years on, we are confident that as our roots dig ever deeper into Botrivier our understanding of the terroir will multiply, along with wines that elegantly, understatedly, simply speak for themselves.

Intensive soil analysis and complete terroir assessment were undertaken before the best possible clones were selected for specific sites. Following this approach, it was decided that Bordeaux and Rhône varieties would do best here.

Of the grapes planted, 70% are red varieties and 30% white. In total, 12 different varieties have been planted as our winemaking philosophy is very much one of blending.

Olive Oil

Olive Oil

They say that luck is when opportunity meets preparation. And while this is true of Gabriëlskloof as a whole, it is wonderfully demonstrated by the fine olive products produced on the farm.

The olive groves are right at home in the cool Mediterranean climate that is so kind to our grapes. A mix of Coratina, Frantoio and Leccino olive trees grow on the sunny Gabriëlskloof slopes. The fruit is small with intense flavour, hand-picked and then cold-pressed to produce boutique quality extra virgin olive oil. You can taste and buy the oil during your wine tasting, and don’t forget to pick up some of our other olive products from the restaurant’s deli.
